Norway Festival, April 1-2, 2006
Mingei International Museum, Plaza de Panama, Balboa Park

Mingei International Museum will host a two day festival which will give visitors a wonderful opportunity to enjoy a fantastic selection of programs, highlighting Norwegian culture. The Museum's administration has been pleased with the attendance of visitors to the Norwegian exhibition, and is really going out of its way to organize this exciting festival.

All the events will be of great interest, not only for people of Norwegian background, but also for the larger San Diego community. Several participants are coming from Norway. For many, the main attraction will be Princess Märtha Louise, who will read from her book Why Kings and Queens Don't Wear Crowns on Sunday, April 2. She will autograph the book and talk to those in attendance, and pictures may be taken with her. The book is $17.95 and can be purchased at the Museum gift shop.

On Saturday, April 1, three of Norway's top folk musicians will give a concert at 4:00 p.m. In addition, Janet Blohm Pultz, director of the Vesterheim Norwegian-American Museum, will have a presentation in the morning, followed by Bernt Erik Nilsen's stave church presentation. Lizzie Riiber (weaving) and Lene Skaar (rose painting) from Norway will have demonstrations on the second floor in the Norwegian exhibition.

Those of you who have a bunad are very welcome to take part in the bunad presentation at 12:30 p.m. A reduced price for the Saturday programs is offered to bunad participants. Please call Anne Kløvnes Høidal if you are interested in participating. The Scandia Dancers will perform at 3:00 p.m.

An elegant Ibsen Dinner will end the day. A dramatic reading from Ibsen's Peer Gynt by Dr. Peter Larlham is part of the dinner, as well as music by the Norwegian folk musicians.

The Symposium (6 programs) on Saturday will cost $75.00. Participants in the bunad presentation will pay only $50.00. The Ibsen Dinner is $75.00. There is a $25.00 charge for adults attending Princess Märtha Louise's book reading on Sunday; $10.00 for children.
